What Are Anatomically Correct 3D Reference Models
ACRM Corp‘s patent pending process of rendering three-dimensional models from CT and MRI scans
allows physicians and surgeons to hold an exact, anatomically correct replica of the patient’s spine, skull or other skeletal part.
An expert medical stereolithographer carefully analyzes and formats the patient’s CT or MRI scan to optimize it for production.
This three-dimensional model allows the surgeon to accurately practice a delicate procedure and thoroughly evaluate a patient’s condition prior to surgery.
The ACRM model is an exact replica of a patient’s anatomy, accurate to 1/35th of a millimeter. They are not ‘general’ or ‘standard’ models.
Each model is unique. Derived from the patient’s CT or MRI scan, the models are an exact replica of the
patient’s anatomy in a bone-like powder via our patent pending production process.
- An anatomically correct 3-D model can be used for analysis and diagnosis.
- Is a valuable tool for surgeons to prepare and “dry-run” an operation – thereby reducing the overall risk and time of the medical procedure.
- A tangible and patient-specific model that surgeons and medical professionals can use to explain an upcoming procedure to patients and family members.
- Can be used to demonstrate actual patient anatomy for education.
- Identifies defects not found with 2D imaging.

Does medicare and/or private companies cover the cost of the model? or Who pays for the cost of the model?
Thank you
Evan:
Thank you for the question. At this time our 3D model technology is not covered under a CPT code, so there is no reimbursement from insurance. Right now we have a variety of folks who are paying for the models. We have hospitals that pay for them because there is a net savings in OR costs, surgeons who pay for them because they feel that is an invaluable tool for them to get a truly accurate evaluation of the patient’s anatomy before the operation, and in most cases the patients pay for the models because they know that it is critically important for the surgeon and they want their surgeon to have the best possible tools to prepare for the operation.
Please let us know if you have any further questions.
